Please be aware that all email providers are not equal. Many hosting providers (like 123-reg, Fasthosts & GoDaddy) offer email as an afterthought and don't have the same infrastructure, resilience, technical support and security as the services provided by Apple, Google and Microsoft. If you are having problems using SMTP with one of the less popular providers we would recommend using a service like Google Apps.
