How do I alter the margins in documents or letters?
HTML editors like the one we use in WriteUpp are great for preparing simply formatted documents but they do have certain limitations.
One of these is the way borders are handled in documents. These are typically not handled by the editor but by the browser that the editor is running in. The method for changing the margin of a document depends on which browser you are using. You can find some common examples below.
If you're using Google Chrome, you can adjust the borders when you print by clicking on More Settings in the print window, and then choosing the Custom option in the Margins dropdown. This will provide you with movable margins on your document that you can drag to alter the margin sizes:
In Microsoft Edge, you can change the margins when you print by choosing More Settings in the print window, then the Customised option from the Margins dropdown. You can either use the Top, Bottom, Left and Right fields to enter a margin in mm, or drag the moveable margins on the document to change the size:
In Safari, margins are changed by setting up a custom paper size containing the margin you'd like you use. When the print window opens, in the Paper size dropdown list, choose Manage custom sizes:
Click on the + symbol to add a new custom margin setting, then complete the top, bottom, left and right fields to set your margins:
Then click on OK to return to the print window. Make sure your custom size is appearing in the Paper size dropdown, and you should see the custom margins reflected in the print preview.
If you don't see the custom margins, you might also have to set your custom size as the default paper size in your Mac settings. To do this, go to System Preferences -> Printers & Scanners and select your printer, then choose the template you've just created
